Optimising digestive and ruminal function by controlling the microbial flora

Controlling the balance and health of the digestive tract of livestock is a prerequisite when it comes to optimising production results, whether on monogastric or ruminant livestock farms. Studying the synergies that exist between feed and intestinal and ruminal microbiota in livestock is one of the CCPA Group’s research priorities. Specific nutritional programmes and solutions, based on the Group’s know-how in phyto expertise, have thus been developed to help and advise poultry, pig and ruminant livestock farms on this issue.

To optimise the function of the digestive tract and the rumen, the CCPA Group has developed innovative nutritional solutions in poultry, pigs and ruminants. These solutions, originating in the CCPA Group’s research in phytoexpertise, are formulated with natural active ingredients and have been tried and tested in the context of various livestock farms and feed systems worldwide.

Two specific programmes optimise the digestive and ruminal function  in livestock:

ProActiv'® range: launched in 2013, this range of natural nutritional solutions and programmes encourages the establishment and development of beneficial digestive flora for monogastric animals, poultry and pigs. These solutions come in the form of nutritional additives that can be incorporated in premixes or compound livestock feeds.

VivActiv'® range: this natural nutritional technique, which includes vegetal active ingredients selected by the CCPA Group’s R&D, favourably orientate the growth of beneficial ruminal flora and the exploitation of the energy and protein in the feed rations of cattle, sheep and goats. VivActiv'® combines specific nutritional additives to optimise the feed ration of ruminants and improve feed efficiency.

Digestive health: a question of balance!

The intestinal microbiota plays a key role in the integrity of the digestive tract and, more generally, in animal health. Failure to control this flora may cause diarrhoea, mortality, under-performance, increased pressure on health and greater use of antibiotics. Good digestive health results in a balance between the mucosa, the microflora and the feed given to the animals. In cattle, sheep and goats, controlling the function of the specific microbial flora of the rumen is also a key issue in ensuring animal health and the feed efficiency of the rations.
